Cevat Açıkalın (1901-1970) is a diplomat who had a distinguished career in the Turkish foreıgn service between 1922 and 1961, Açıkalın acted as the secretarygeneral of the Turkish delegation to the Montreux Straits Conference in 1936 and he functioned as Turkish Envoy Extraordinary in Hatay in 1938-1939. Furthermore, he acted twice as the Secretary-General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and served ably as ambassador in Moscow, London and Rome. In these capacities he provided invaluable Services to Turkey, Açıkalın was also a senatör between 1961 and 1968. Ow- ing to his superior virtues and distinguished personality, Açıkalın was a much respected and adored statesman.
